FSU Post-Shooting Support

Hi everyone,

So putting this thread together with an update on everything that’s going on with post-shooting recovery and also for those of us who work with FL college students who may be upset or tense over what happened yesterday at FSU.

For FSU specific resources and news, here are the following links you can share with students:

SUPPORT FSU STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY

For those looking for a way to support and uplift FSU's community, a gift, no matter the size, can offer comfort and relief to those directly impacted. Your support of the FSU Emergency Fund will help to provide immediate financial support to students and families directly impacted by the tragedy. To donate, visit https://bit.ly/4cXQNTb.

DONATIONS OF GOODS AND SERVICES

The university is not in need of additional resources at this time, however individuals or organizations who are wanting to make donations of goods and services should contact studentaffairs@fsu.edu. They will contact you directly.

RESILIENCE RESOURCES

FSU Institute for Trauma and Resilience Studies has curated the evidence-based and research-validated resources included at the links below. The resources comprise a “toolbox” of sorts that you can explore (for free) and use as you see as best suited for you. They explore stress and coping approaches and share a deeper understanding of traumatic experiences and resilient responses that are available to us as human beings. These resources can be used on their own or can be combined with counseling and other helpful services.

Anyone in our FSU community can access our open-access online resource, Resilience After Adversity, to learn practical skills and explore strategies for strengthening resilience. (An FSU Certificate of Training is available for those who complete the course.)

Student Resilience Toolkit Journal (PDF): For students only, we have an open-access pdf version of our Student Resilience Toolkit Journal.

Printed Journal Copies: Starting next week, students can pick up a printed copy of the Student Resilience Toolkit journal at University Center C, Room 2306, or call 850-644-1715 for assistance.

If you are wanting to offer assistance/volunteer for the psychological response:

If you are in the Tallahassee or surrounding areas and willing to offer pro-bono in-office sessions through your practice or agency, please PM me.

If you would like to add your name to a general list we are gathering for FSU CAPs, please fill out the Google Form listed here: https://forms.gle/7R4QiEKcR4WogpmAA

I am in contact with FSU CAPS and awaiting their volunteer planning response for resources outside of their center. Once I heard more I will post here if allowed. If you want to throw your name in, you can call FSU CAPS directly at (850) 644-TALK (8255) and ask to be added to the volunteer list. If they give permission, I will share the form here when it is available so their phone lines aren’t off the hook. They are still addressing the on-the-ground response today and probably through the weekend. Alumni can also call the alumni line to see what other type of assistance or support might be needed: 850.644.2761.

If volunteering for the mental health response, please be sure that you have at least MHFA training, disaster MH experience/training, and/or risk management/crisis response training to ensure good fit for referrals.

If I find out anything else, or if anyone has additional resources or information to provide, please post it here! Appreciate everything you all do every day. ♥️
