UPDATE 09/30/25: Compact Connect is live! We cannot register yet until Florida officially confirms we are active (only AZ and MN right now) but you can go on and see what it looks like and get familiar for when we go live: https://app.compactconnect.org/Dashboard

UPDATE 09/29/25:

Update on the timeline! The Counseling Compact officially launches tomorrow in its first two states: Arizona and Minnesota. So LPCs from those states will be able to log on and apply for cross-practice privileges.

WE ARE NOT ACTIVE YET. But we should be able to at least see the website and portal up fully for when we are active.

You can read more about it on their main page of the Counseling Compact website. 🙂

UPDATE 08/28/25:

Update on timeframe for the Compact from the most recent FL Board Meeting: the first round of states will launch in the Compact late September/early October. Florida will NOT be part of the first round due to concerns about security regarding transmission of some sensitive personal information. We will be opening up Compact Applications within 1-3 months AFTER the first round. It is unclear if we in FL will be able to apply for other states who ARE part of the first round without also having our state be active in the Compact. Keep an eye here as I continue to receive updates.

UPDATE 08/07/25:

So the NBCC did a webinar on the current status of the Counseling Compact and what the actual process is going to look like. So here is that information. 🙂

  • Counseling Compact will begin accepting applicants within the next 3-4 months (can be anytime from October to December).

  • 18 of the 34 states use a jurisprudence exam for their licenses, so before you can get the privilege to practice in those states, you have to pass those exams.

  • You will need a level 2 background check and fingerprints done. If you want to do the Compact, then you will need to get this done before your renewal.

  • They use the platform Compact Connect: https://compactconnect.org/

  • You will create a practitioner profile once this goes live (the Counseling Compact participating states will load your licensure data into the platform) providing some basic information. Not all of it has to match what the board has. You will also be required to use an authenticator app to log on and access info.

  • Once you have an account and have logged in, your licensure info should be listed and verified that you are eligible to participate in the Compact.

  • To add new states to your practice privilege, you will select the option to apply for privileges and then select the states you wish to go for. On top of the above stated requirements, there is a Counseling Compact processing fee and a state processing fee. These vary but typically range from $30-60 per state. These listings will also show if the states have a jurisprudence exam.

  • You will have to answer questions regarding your current investigation and disciplinary status.

  • You will pay the required fees for the state and the Counseling Compact, completing the transaction.

  • States you apply for that do NOT require a jurisprudence exam will have a privilege issued immediately. It will show up on your dashboard. Your public privilege listed on the website will also be updated to add those states.

  • For states that require the jurisprudence exam, you will complete this separately with each state. You will find a list of the states that require a jurisprudence exam here: https://counselingcompact.gov/.../jurisprudence.../ . The Counseling Compact website will eventually update to link to all of the exams. Think of this as a "laws and rules" class/test like we do in the state of FL.

  • Counseling Compact privilege's expire on your home state renewal: so all of ours will expire every 2 years on March 31st. You will need to re-obtain those privileges upon renewal of your home state license.

  • If you currently live in a Compact state and then move to a non-Compact state, then all of your privileges are revoked.

  • Moving between Compact states- obtain the privilege to practice in your new state BEFORE you move. There will be an expedited licensure process to get you fully licensed in that new home state.

  • For military PCS, they can establish their home state in any state they are licensed in for the duration of their active duty. They are not required to live there so long as they are active duty.

  • If disciplinary action is taken upon you in any state you hold a privilege in, privileges are automatically revoked and all privilege states are notified of actions against your license.

  • Not all states are going live at the same time. FL is one of the first few that WILL be participating quickly.
